When your vehicle starts to skid, the best approach is to steer in the direction you want the front of the car to go. This technique, often called "steering into the skid," helps regain control of the vehicle. If the rear of your car is sliding to the left, for instance, you should gently steer to the left to align the front wheels with the direction of travel. This action helps transfer weight to the front tires, increasing traction and facilitating recovery from the skid.

In contrast, braking hard is risky during a skid because it can worsen the loss of traction, leading to further loss of control.
